Traveling to Cancun is getting easier with so many flights from cities across the country, including American Airlines. Starting in November and December of this year, the airline will resume some of its popular flight routes from five major US cities to Cancun, as well as increasing some flight frequencies to Cancun due to high demand.
The flight services will arrive just in time for travelers to prepare for their winter vacation this year. We have all the information for you below.
What Are The New Flight Routes From The Cities To Cancun?
As of November 5, direct flight routes to Cancun will resume for the cities of Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Kansas City, MO and Raleigh/Durham, NC.
Direct flights from St. Louis, MOto Cancun will be available from December 3, 2022.
Following the resumption, flights are scheduled to operate once a week. The flights will be carried out on the airline’s Airbus A321, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

American Airlines Flights to Cancun: A Complete List
Following the resumption of these 5 flight routes, there will be a total of 15 coast-to-coast cities where US travelers will be able to get direct flight service to everyone’s favorite destination in the Mexican Caribbean.
Here is a full list of American Airlines flights between major US and Cancun for winter 2022including the number of weekly flight services:
- Austin (Australia): 7 weekly flights
- Boston (BOS): 1 flight per week
- Charlotte (CLT): 28 flights per week
- Chicago (ORD): 21 flights per week
- Colon (CMH): 1 flight per week
- Dallas (DFW): 50 flights per week
- Indianapolis (IND): 1 flight per week
- Kansas City (MCI): 1 flight per week
- Los Angeles (LAX): 1 flight per week
- Miami (MIA): 35 weekly flights
- New York City (JFK): 14 weekly flights
- Philadelphia (PHL): 21 weekly flights
- Phoenix (PHX): 7 weekly flights
- Raleigh/Durham (RDU): 1 flight per week
- Saint Louis (STL): 1 flight per week
Frequencies are increasing for some direct routes to Cancun
In addition to the resumed routes, some flight services are scheduled to intensify on American Airlines starting in November.
Increased frequency of American Airlines flights to Cancun:
- Charlotte (CLT): Increase from 21 flights per week to 28/week
- Chicago (ORD): Frequencies from 14 to 21 times per week
- Philadelphia (PHL): Increasing from 14 to 21 flights per week
- New York (JFK): Flights increasing from 7 to 14 times per week, starting November 1.
And as of October 30, 2022, the airlines will begin direct flight services between Dallas (DFW) and Cancun. Services will be quite frequent, with flights scheduled to operate 50 times per week.
American Airlines increased flights to the Mexican Caribbean
With return travel in full swing and the Mexican Caribbean breaking records as one of the most sought-after destinations for US travelers, American Airlines has increased its flight services to Cancun and other nearby destinations in the past two years.
Last October, the airline announced a new flight route between Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) and Cancun with flight frequencies four times a week.
And at the end of the year, in December, the airline inaugurated a route between Miami (MIA) and Chetumal (CTM). Located about five hours south of Cancun, Chetumal is the capital city of Quintana Roo, as well as the gateway to Belize and the rest of Central America. The town is just a short drive from the popular destination of Bacalar, where tourists flock for the stunning lagoon and a slower style of travel.
